I do hope to come back next year, and I need an excuse to visit the west coast again. Especially the Pacific Northwest, which I've never visited. Fingers crossed.
Also hoping for a west coast visit one day! Northern CA particularly. I made it to Madison last year to see you because I could time it with a visit to family and I’m so grateful I got to attend!!
Whatever else you do, if you come to the PNW, you've got to go visit the old-growth forests in the interior of the Olympic Peninsula. Olympic National Park protects most of them, so that's the place to go. The perimeter of the peninsula is unprotected and often clearcut, so a bit less enticing. Port Townsend is a lovely town to stay in on the peninsula.
I see you will be both in Buffalo and in New York City. In between them is Holy Trinity Monastery, near Jordanville, NY (the larger towns nearby are Herkimer, Mohawk, Richfield Springs, and Cooperstown). If you can find time, you should visit. Holy Trinity is the spiritual heart of the Russian Church Abroad and the location of the seminary.
Selfishly, I hope your travels bring you to the Chicago area eventually! I ordered the magazine and look forward to reading your essay (especially in print), and congrats on finding a publisher for the book!
Hmmm... I just might nibble at the bait of "The Everlasting Man", if I can find it, given my digital allergy right now. Allergic to the computer keys, not the piano ones.
Nice! I actually am reading The Everlasting Man and relieved that I don’t have to have it finished by end of August LOL (which wouldn’t have happened). About 1/3 through….very interesting…
Thanks for mentioning of Death To The World. I heard about it years ago, but I somehow assumed it was defunct. Apparently, it is totally funct. I'm looking forward to receiving my first issue ever.
Everlasting Man is an excellent choice. I read it more than 20 years ago, as I was slowly wending my way back to the church. I remember particularly how Chesterton rebutted the cartoonish image of stone age man as a creature who lived in a cave, clubbed women to get a mate, and otherwise comported himself as a brute. Really great stuff, rendered in Chesterton's sparkling prose.
Death to the World has lots of cool stuff beyond their awesome magazines, too. They currently have a “Baptize Them All” t-shirt modeled on the cover of Kill ‘em All complete with Metallica style lettering that makes my inner 15 year old self excited.
I find myself torn over the DTTW merchandise. The"doing it by the book" part of my head tells me it's hypocritical, the but weak part of head goes "oooo, cool stuff, me want"!
There's also the school of thought that excessive outward displays of ones' faith are wrong, as they are done for vain purposes.
But I must at this point confess to having a "Read Righteous Propaganda" tee, albeit I use it as a winter night shirt so it's not pulically displayed!
I think I could get away with those T-shirts if I was 25. At 52 it might look slightly tragic. I do, however, have a very funky, and useful, DTTW shoulder bag. If you are torn, excuse yourself by explaining that you are not hiding your light under a bushel ;-)
Hi Paul, I am looking forward to your upcoming work,! It's shame about the postage for Death to the World. It shows up over 23 Euro to Ireland? See you in Dublin at the end of the month!
Hmmm, maybe someone could mail you a photocopy of Paul's article, with his permission? I have ordered the zine and would be happy to do that. Postage for a letter is still cheap.
Looking forward to the Erasmus lecture!
Oh good. There’s still time to read Everlasting Man…
I am always hoping that you will show up on the west coast in the US. And even better if you came to the Pacific Northwest. Perhaps one day.

how about the Interior West? Denver, Salt Lake, Missoula, Albuquerque?
I am going to pitch Southern California, but I am willing to come up to the PNW, it is beautiful in the summer.

Thanks. I will remember this.
Death to the world is ironic, but how about life everlasting? No coffee required!

Is there a book that collects your The Machine essays forthcoming?
+1
I would definitely purchase a copy. Would be much better than printing them all out as I work through reading them.
The book is on the way next year. I'll keep everyone updated here.

Congrats on finding publishers for the Wild Saints book -- that's great news!

Dilemmas!!

Will any of these events be recorded for online viewing? 🙏. Also casting my vote for a west coast (So Cal?) event!
I think some may.
Posting here to commit myself to a review of Everlasting Man.
Any date as yet for publication of The Machine?
It will be next year some time.
Thanks Paul

Postage from America is often insane. I have tried to buy books sometimes and found that the postage costs more than the item, alas.
