On my recent American speaking tour to promote my new book Against The Machine, I was invited to address an audience at Grove City College, near Pittsburgh. I spoke to a large crowd in a beautiful neo-Gothic chapel about the similarities between the emerging Machine civilisation of the digital age and the prophecies made in Aldous Huxley’s 1931 novel Brave New World.
My particular focus was not just the shape of the Machine, but the potential for escaping it. I offered six possible exits, all drawn from ideas in my book. An alternative title for this talk, now that I think about it, might have been ‘How to be a Savage.’
Free subscribers can listen to the audio of the talk at the top of this page, which I hope is not too fuzzy. Paid subscribers also have access, below, to a video version and the full written transcript.
